About
American soprano Molly Dunn is known for her dramatic voice and soaring high notes. She makes her New Jersey Symphony debut as a Walkyrie-inspired First Lady in Undead Art’s The Magic Flute in Spring 2026 under the baton of Maestro Gregory D. McDaniel. Ms. Dunn made her debut in La Traviata at the Palau de la Música Catalana in 2022 and returned numerous times in the following years to her beloved Violetta. She began the 2022 season performing Mimì in Andrea DelGiudice’s modern adaptation of La Bohème with Light Opera of New Jersey under the baton of Jason Tramm. During the 2021 season, Ms. Dunn debuted as La Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro with the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia in Morelia, Mexico, under the baton of Maestro Jorge Parodi and appeared as Mimì in La Bohème scenes with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Michoacán in the Morelia Opera Gala. She was a semi-finalist in the 2024 Elizabeth Connell Prize for Dramatic Voices, a Finalist and Special Award Winner in the 2017 Lotte Lenya Competition, and a winner of the 2019 Vienna Summer Music Festival Competition, which led to her European debut as Suor Angelica at the Wiener Kammeroper in Vienna, Austria, under the baton of Maestro Keith Chambers. A versatile crossover performer, Ms. Dunn began her career in musical theatre with roles including Amalia Balash in She Loves Me, Rosa Bud in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Johanna (u/s) in Sweeney Todd, Babette in Beauty and the Beast, and Carlotta (u/s) in Maury Yeston’s Phantom. She is the co-creator of Zombie Opera, a gory operatic extravaganza in Jersey City that now attracts over 4,000 audience members every Halloween. Watch Molly sing Tosca in Zombie Opera 2025.
